So last night I couldn't sleep, and had all these thoughts racing through my head. Suddenly I got something that I couldn't shake. What was that thing again, the blackhead thing where it sucked all the gunk out of your pores but there was oil and it was super weird?
I went straight to Google and BAM there it was. The Grit Method.
The gist of it is if you oil cleanse, apply a clay mask, then oil cleanse again it will produce little 'grits' that are supposedly the gunk from your blackheads. Weird. Gross. Cool.
I did a blend of two different methods I found, one from Project Vanity and the other from Self magazine (linked at the end).
I started by cleansing with Bosica Makeup Breakup, then applied Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Mask, and after 15 minutes I removed it with a warm washcloth. Project Vanity recommends also using an BHA before the mask, but I only had The Ordinary's Acid Peel and that felt too intense, so I might try it again sometime. Then it was massage time.
At first I didn't really get anything, but I decided to set a timer for three minutes and really aggressively massaged my face. I didn't get the horrifying mountain of dirt that makes you look like you're using the St. Ives scrub, but I got a fair few! Also *gross warning* I had a few pieces that were white as apposed to brown or black, which leads me to believe that it did get something out of some of my pores. I went against the advice and washed my face after removing the oil ( I was pretty grossed out) but just with Pixi Rose Cream Cleanser so very gentle, very nourishing. There was a small reduction in my blackheads! I still had a lot, not going to lie to you, but I had gotten rid of a few! My face was very red/flushed immediately after, and slightly tingly from the massage.
I continued with my regular routine, but I wouldn't if you have sensitive skin. The next morning my skin was smooth but more blackheads were already back, so this isn't a long term solution to blackheads. I was not longer red or tingly anymore either, which I was kind of worried about.
Overall it was a fun experiment and I'm eager to try it again but with the added BHA/AHA. When I do I will definitely write about it and let you all know!
